Chromebook Monitoring Over Break – ENGLISH & SPANISH
Students that are in grades 7 through 12 are able to take home the Chromebook that has been issued to them over the upcoming break (12/17/2022 – 1/3/2023). The LCSD Technology Department believes that this could benefit students in a number of ways, including providing access to some educational materials as well as resources that can improve their lives.
During the months that students are in school, student chromebooks are filtered for inappropriate content, and are closely monitored by our building administrators and district office staff for a variety of search terms.
During the time when staff and students are on break (Summer break, Winter break, and Spring break) chromebook internet traffic still runs through our powerful dual-layered content filtering system. However, we do not have the staff to support the level of monitoring that we normally do during the time that students are in school. This presents a potential risk that a student may be able to access inappropriate or objectionable content, or use search terms related to self harm, harm to others, or school safety issues without an adult knowing, despite our advanced filtering system.
The following three choices are available to parents:
Option 1: If you have a smartphone, you can monitor your student’s device yourself using the GoGuardian Parent App. This tool is incredibly effective, in that you can see browsing history, set time limits, block certain sites, and even shut off the internet entirely if needed on your student’s chromebook. Option 2: Your student can drop off their device in the Media Center (library) on the last day of school before break starts. When the student returns from break, the Media Assistant will reassign a device to the student.
Option 3: Allow your student to use the device with the content filter in place, but without an adult monitoring. In this scenario, most inappropriate content will be blocked before the student sees it, but it is impossible for us to ensure that they will be shielded from all inappropriate content on the internet. Searches related to self harm, harm to others, and school safety issues are also not monitored.
If your student is moving out of the district over the break, please call the LCSD Technology Department at 541-574-5838 to arrange a time and place to return the device.

Los estudiantes que están en los grados 7 a 12 son capaces de llevar a casa el Chromebook que se ha emitido a ellos durante las próximas vacaciones (12/17/2022 – 1/3/2023). Opción 1: Si tiene un celular inteligente, usted mismo puede monitorear el dispositivo de su estudiante usando una App/aplicación para padres llamada GoGuardian. Esta herramienta es increíblemente efectiva, ya que puede ver el historial de navegación, establecer límites de tiempo, bloquear ciertas páginas/sitios e incluso apagar el internet por completo si es necesario al Chromebook/computadora del estudiante. Opción 2: Su estudiante puede dejar su dispositivo en el Centro de Medios (biblioteca) el último día de clases antes de que comiencen las vacaciones. Cuando el estudiante regrese de las vacaciones, el Asistente de Medios reasignará un dispositivo al estudiante.
Opción 3: Puede permitir que el estudiante use el dispositivo con el filtro de seguridad inapropiado, sin un adulto monitoreándolo. En este caso, la mayor parte del contenido inapropiado será bloqueado antes de que el estudiante lo vea, pero es imposible aseguremos de que estará protegido de todos los contenidos inapropiados en el internet. Tampoco se supervisan las búsquedas relacionadas con lesiones a uno mismo, daños a otros y problemas de seguridad escolar.
