Taft 7-12 Update

Posted on April 1, 2020

Taft students and families,

I appreciate all of your patience as we are going through something that we have never experienced before.  These are trying times in our community and we understand our families have many needs.  Taft 7-12 will continue to be a host site for the pick-up of daily meals and our buses will continue their bus routes to deliver food.  Lincoln County School District (LCSD) is working to follow all the guidelines set by the Governor and the Oregon Department of Education (ODE).   Things are changing daily and we will continue to update you on the school closure, classes, credits and graduation as we get information.  Please, look out for the postings from Lincoln County School District and the superintendent Dr. Gray for the most up to date information.

Supplemental Learning:

Currently, has the direction from the state is to provide supplemental learning to all students.  This will becoming out on April 1st on our digital platforms as well as a paper packets can be picked up on the bus routes or Taft 7-12 through the meals pick-up line (More information: Supplemental Learning).  The supplemental plans are for this week and teachers are working on supplemental learning plans for next week.

Communication from Teachers at Taft:

Teachers are working on communicating with families and students to check-in with them about their overall well being, food service, Chromebook, WiFi and other needs.  Teachers may be calling you with our Remind App which may display a phone number you do not know due to the third party calling system.  Please, answer the call as we want to connect with you.  We will continue to reach out with email, Text Remind App, Facebook, Website and our Google Classroom Platform.

Graduation – Class of 2020:

At this time, we do not have direction from the Oregon Department of Education for senior graduation requirements.  Thank you for being patient.  As we get this information we will adjust graduation plans and communicate with all seniors.

Chromebooks for Students:

LCSD will be allowing all 9th to 12th grade students keep their Chromebooks.  K-8th grade students are allowed to have one device per household.  You may request a device and pick it up at Taft 7-12.  Fill out the form to get your device – FORM.

We miss all of our students and wish you well.  We will get through this time and continue to support students as best we can. Please, continue to check the LCSD or Taft Website for all updates on the school closure.

Sincerely,

Nicholas Lupo
Principal of Taft 7-12
