Taft 7-12 Update, April 23rd

Posted on April 23, 2020

Dear Taft students and Families,

As we finish our second week of Distance Learning for All, I want to thank students and families for your continued patience as we embark on a new way of learning. I have had the opportunity to deliver meals to students, connect with families, and join in on a few Google Meets sessions.  This has been a learning experience for not only me but the teachers as well.

Grading for second semester:

All assignments and final Semester 2 grades will be awarded as a Pass or Incomplete. No letter grades will be given. Students receiving Incomplete grades will be encouraged to continue to work towards passing.  Any student who receives a final Semester 2 grade of an Incomplete will work during the 2020-2021 school year to earn a Pass so it is critical students are completing their work this semester to avoid additional work load next year. Taft is still updating our computer system to accurately show Pass/Incomplete instead of Letter Grades. We acknowledge that many students are relying on spring grades to raise their GPAs and this news may cause stress and anxiety. The decision to move to a Pass/Incomplete grading scale occurred at the state level and will impact all Oregon students.

Juniors -Class of 2021:

The Oregon Department of Education has waived Essential Skills and the Career Related Learning Experience. There have been questions about rescheduling the School Day SAT Exam originally scheduled in April for Juniors to the fall; we are still waiting for guidance. If Juniors have free time, we encourage them to practice for the SAT/ACT, draft scholarship essays and explore college and career opportunities. Check the school website under “Academics” for more information. Many colleges are waiving the SAT/ACT requirement for the Class of 2021-check individual college websites for specific details.

Refunds

Refunds are now available for Spring Athletic Participation Fees and the few field trips that were cancelled. Please fill out the form on the District Website so we can process your request. If you have questions, please call the main office.  Essential items are currently available for pick up at Taft. Appointments must be made in advanced by calling the main office at 541-996-2115.  The District is creating a plan for turning in items and other end of year processes, please be patient as we develop a process that keeps everyone safe.
